The tail pain meter for mice and rats, also known as the photothermal tail shaking method or the radiation thermal tail shaking method, is based on the principle of shining a beam of light onto the tail to generate a heat collection effect, causing the local temperature of the tail to rise and produce pain sensation. When the pain threshold of the animal is exceeded, the animal will produce a tail shaking escape. The method used to determine the level and changes of the animal's pain threshold is called the tail shaking method.
